"It is God who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' that has shone into our hearts to enlighten them with the knolwledge of God's glory, the glory on the face of Christ." - 2 Corinthians 4:6
Why We Burn Candles. In the Catholic Church, light has always had a special significance because it represents Christ. We know that Jesus called Himself the Light of the world. With this in mind, we understand why, during the Sacrament of Baptism, the priest presents a candle, which was lit from the Paschal candle, and tells the newly baptized to “receive the light of Christ”. And at Easter, the Paschal candle is lit as a sign of the risen light of Christ. It cannot be put out, and shines into the world as a symbol of hope and love.
When you light a candle for someone who needs it, whether that person is a family member, a relative, a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker, a leader or someone we met on the streets, it is a physical act of that constant prayer before God and an acknowledgment of the Light of Christ who reigns in all situations. Flower Donations.
A Gift of Fresh Flowers. Fresh flowers on Sunday mornings are something we all enjoy. These flowers not only beautify our sanctuary, but are given to honor very special people and occasions in our lives. The reasons for donating flowers are many. In addition to remembering a loved one, you can give flowers in celebration of marriages, anniversaries, baptism, birthdays, congratulations or thank you's.
Donors can be an individual or a group. We can create a bouquet for you or you can ask for specific colors or types of flowers that have special meaning to you. Your flower donation will be announced in the weekend bulletin or it can be kept anonymous if you choose. After the weekend Mass, if you prefer to keep the fresh flowers that you have donated, please let us know and we will make arrangements to do so.
Please consider a Sunday (or two) when you would like to thank God and honor a special person or a special moment with a gift of flowers. To donate a flower arrangement or have one made for you by our Environmental Sacristans, please contact the parish office at 413.773.3311. Each donation will be acknowledged in our weekly bulletin.
Easter & Christmas Flowers. Please be generous with your flower donation in the envelopes provided during Easter and the Advent season. This allows our Environmental
Sacristans to purchase palms and spring flowers for Easter and greenery, poinsettias, wreaths and trees during Advent to be placed around the Sacristy for all to enjoy. Please note that this is a free-will contribution.
Do you have a flower garden? Are you interested in sharing some of blossom, greens or branches? Please contact our parish office during the growing season at 413.773.3311 for more information on how you can help us beautify our sacred spaces by donating your flowers.
Thank you for helping beautify our worship area!
